Gophers outclass Nicholls State

Posted by skiumahgopher on December 29, 2007

It wasn’t pretty. The Gophers never trailed and had no trouble. The Gophers equaled last years win total. They also set a record for the largest margin of victory away from Williams Arena.

Here’s the account from the newpaper in Thibodeaux, LA.

Gophers open with a win on the road

Posted by skiumahgopher on December 28, 2007

The women’s basketball team opened with a 74-63 victory at Michigan State.

Good things:

Over 50% from the field
Didn’t let DeHaan touch the ball (only 4 shots)
FG defense – MSU shot 40.9%

Bad things:

FT shooting Fox was 7-8, the rest of the team 8-21
Bench outscored 17-6
4 starters over 30 minutes (will take a toll later)

But all in all a good start for the Gophers

Get to know them – Nicholls St Colonels

Posted by skiumahgopher on December 28, 2007

The Nicholls St. Colonels are the opponents for the Gophers tonight in Las Vegas.

Here are some facts about the Colonels & Nicholls St:

It is located in Thibodeaux, LA (hometown of Gopher Damian Johnson)

There are 18 players on the roster, compared to 12 (11 healthy) on the Gophers roster

There are 5 players from Australia, 9 from Louisiana, 3 from Texas, and 1 from California

They like to shoot the 3 in the game against UNC, 28 of their 55 shots wre from beyond the arc (and they made half of them).

The Gophers will have to close out better on the shooters then they have in the last couple of games.

Gopherhole Get-together

Posted by skiumahgopher on December 26, 2007

Hey visitors from the Hole, I am thinking of the game on January 20th for the first Big Ten get-together at Stub and Herbs. All are invited to join us either in the basement or in the game room after the Gophers play the Spartans.

Okposo stars for the USA

Posted by skiumahgopher on December 26, 2007

Turncoat Kyle Okposo led the USA to a 5-1 win.. But don’t worry Gopher fans, Cade Fairchild and Mike Carman scored for the USA, and they will be back for the Gophers in 2008.

It is good to see Carman playing in the Worlds to get some action before returning to the Gophers after being academically ineligble the first semester.

Curt Giles – Chicken?

Posted by skiumahgopher on December 26, 2007

The Schwan’s Cup is taking place this week. But co-#1 ranked Edina has opted to play in the less prestigous Silver Division.

While Edina will play some very good teams in the Silver Division, the Gold Division championship is the 2nd most sought after trophy in the state behind the AA State Championship. Edina should be in the Gold Division and coach Curt Giles should explain to his players why they are playing at Aldrich and not the X.

How I spent my Christmas recess

Posted by skiumahgopher on December 25, 2007

Everyone’s favorite presidential smoocher went to Iraq, but we don’t know where..

Of course, she said progress is being made. Duh, if you send over 30,000 more troops, progress should be made. The question is, will it last?

John Millea today writes about the Catholic Spirit Tournament’s special guests from New Orleans . I’ve known John Tauer since he was called Johnny, and always expect stuff like this from him.
